WALKING WITH GOD – ABRAHAM

“When Abraham was ninety-nine years old, the LORd appeared to him and said: “I am El-shadai – God Almighty; serve Me faithfully and live a blameless life. I will make a covenant with you, by which I will guarantee to give you countless descendants”. At this Abram fell down on the ground.  Then god said to him: “This is my covenant with you: I will make you the father of a multitude of nations! What’s more, I am changing your name.  It will no longer be Abram instead, you will be called Abraham, for you will be father of many nations.  I will make you extremely fruitful.  ;Your descendants will become many natins, and kings will be among them!” I will confirm my covenant with you and your descendants after you, from generation to generation.  This is the everlasting covenant: I will always be your God and the god of your descendants after you” (Gen 17:1-7 New Living translation NLT).

Abraham is the example of faith and the friend of God.  He started his walk with God at the age of seventy-five years when God called him (Gen 12:1-6).  He obeyed God even though he did not know where he was going but God promised him He would show him the place he was going to inherit.  But Abraham had the problem of childlessness.  When it appeared that the promise of having a child was becoming too delayed, Sarah his wife advised him to take her handmaid on her female-servant (Hagar) so as to give him a child which of course as the culture of that time the child would be the child of Sarah.  Abraham agreed without consulting God, they had the child when Abraham was eighty-six years old, and they named him Ishmael meaning God will hear (Gen 16:11).  It is believed that there was a silence of thirteen years between God and Abraham after this event – Abraham did not consult God before he went into the deal with his wife, and the end of it was problem in the family of Abraham.

It was when Abraham was ninety-nine years old that the LORD appeared to him again and told him all that is written in the Scripture passage of today.  Abraham was to walk with God – El-shadai the Almighty, the self-sufficient God, the One with whom nothing is impossible.  He promised to bless him beyond his imagination and God fulfilled His promise.  Today, Abraham is the father of all believers in Christ Jesus, the Lord: “And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham.  You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you” (Gal 3:29 NLT).

The very purpose of this message is to let all believers in Christ recognize their positions that the day you were converted; like Abraham, you started a journey of walking with God.  What God required from Abraham in the Scripture of this message is the same He requires from you – “to do all things without complaining and disputing that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life…” (Phil 2:15,16a).  For you to be successful in this you need to:

(a)    Use your compass – the Word of God, it is your light and lamp (Ps 119:105).

(b)   You meditate and study your Bible daily (Ps 1:1-3).

(c)    You do what you read and obey it with your whole heart (Ps 119:34).

(d)   Pray Bible-based prayer everyday to be strong and courageous in the storms of life (Luke 18:1-8).

(e)   Follow the instruction and the leading of the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:14).

(f)     Associate with Christians of integrity who are mature than you in the faith (Prov 13:20).

(g)    Win souls to the kingdom of God and bring them to your church (Acts 1:8; 5:42).

(h)   Have strong faith in God (Mark 11:22).

(i)      Abstain from anything that is sinful (Acts 15:20,29; I Thess 5:22).

God Himself will help you in walking with Him (Phil 2:13).

The above is by no means a law but helpful pieces of advice, if taken, then, you can be sure of the blessings of Abraham in your life as an heir of Abraham.  And if perhaps you are not yet born-again, your first step is to believe and accept the Lord Jesus as your Saviour and Lord and to repent from your sins to become a member of God’s family and the seed of Abraham. You can then join other true believers to sing Abraham’s blessings are mine.  Abraham’s blessings are mine, I am blessed in the morning and I am blessed in the evening, Abraham’s blessings are mine.

Lastly, you will inherit the kingdom of God with Abraham and other faithful believers (Matt 8:11).  Remain blessed in Jesus name.

(1)    Lord, I receive the grace to walk with You throughout the days of my life.

(2)    Oh Lord increase my faith in You

(3)    Help me oh Lord, to always consult You before taking any step in Jesus name

LA  MARCHE AVEC DIEU – CAS D’ABRAHAM

« Lorsque Abram fut âgé de quatre-vingt-dix-neuf ans, l’Éternel apparut à Abram, et lui dit: Je suis le Dieu tout-puissant. Marche devant ma face, et sois intègre. J’établirai mon alliance entre moi et toi, et je te multiplierai à l’infini. Abram tomba sur sa face; et Dieu lui parla, en disant: Voici mon alliance, que je fais avec toi. Tu deviendras père d’une multitude de nations. On ne t’appellera plus Abram; mais ton nom sera Abraham, car je te rends père d’une multitude de nations. Je te rendrai fécond à l’infini, je ferai de toi des nations; et des rois sortiront de toi. J’établirai mon alliance entre moi et toi, et tes descendants après toi, selon leurs générations: ce sera une alliance perpétuelle, en vertu de laquelle je serai ton Dieu et celui de ta postérité après toi» (Ge 17:1-7) (LSV).

Abraham est le modèle de foi et l’ami de Dieu. Il commença sa marche avec Dieu à l’âge de soixante- quinze ans quand Dieu l’appela. (Ge. 12:1-6). Il obéit à Dieu quoiqu’il ne savait même pas où il se rendait mais Dieu lui promit qu’il lui montrera la place qu’il allait hériter. Mais Abraham était confronté au problème de stérilité. Quand il parut que la promesse d’avoir un enfant prenait vraiment du temps, Sara sa femme lui conseilla de prendre sa servante (Agar) afin d’avoir d’elle un enfant  qui selon la culture d’alors serait bien sûr l’enfant de Sara. Abraham y consentit sans consulter Dieu; ils eurent l’enfant quand Abraham était âgé de quatre-vingt-six ans, qu’ils nommèrent Ismaël qui veut dire l’Eternel m’a entendu. (Ge. 16:11). On sait qu’il eut un silence de treize ans entre Dieu et Abraham après cet événement. Il n’avait pas consulté Dieu avant de conclure cette affaire avec sa femme et le dénouement fut un problème dans sa famille.

C’était quand Abraham fut âgé de quatre-vingt-dix-neuf ans que l’Eternel lui apparut encore et lui dit tout ce qui est écrit dans le passage de l’Ecriture d’aujourd’hui. Abraham devait marcher avec Dieu. El Shaddai le tout-puissant, le Dieu autonome, celui à qui rien n’est impossible. Il promit de le bénir au-delà de son imagination et Dieu accomplit sa promesse. Aujourd’hui Abraham est le père de tous les croyants en Jésus-Christ, le Seigneur : « Et si vous êtes à Christ, vous êtes donc la postérité d’Abraham, héritiers selon la promesse» (Ga. 3:29) (LSV).

L’objectif même de ce message est de permettre à tous les croyants en Christ de reconnaître ce jour la-même où ils furent convertis; comme Abraham, tu as aussi commencé un voyage de marche avec Dieu. Ce que Dieu demanda à Abraham dans l’Ecriture de ce message est le même qu’il te demande. « Afin que vous soyez irréprochables et purs, des enfants de Dieu irrépréhensibles au milieu d’une génération perverse et corrompue, parmi laquelle vous brillez comme des flambeaux dans le monde, portant la parole de vie; …» (Php. 2:15-16a) (LSV).  Pour que tu réussisses à cela, tu as besoin de :
(a) Utiliser ta boussole – la parole de Dieu, c’est ta lampe et ta lumière. (Ps. 119 :105).
(b) Méditer et d’étudier ta Bible toujours. (Ps. 1:1-3).
(c) Faire ce que tu lis et d’y obéir de tout ton cœur. (Ps. 119 :34).
(d) Faire toujours des prières basées sur la Bible pour que tu sois fort et courageux dans les orages de la vie. (Luc 18 :1-8).
(e) Suivre les instructions et la direction du Saint-Esprit.  (Ro. 8 :14).
(f) T’associer avec les chrétiens intègres qui sont plus mûrs que toi dans la foi. (Pro. 13 :20).
(g) Gagner des âmes pour le royaume de Dieu et de les emmener à ton église. (Actes 1 :8 ; 5 :42).
(h) Avoir une foi inébranlable en Dieu. (Marc 11 :22).
(i) T’abstenir de tout ce qui est péché. (Actes 15 :20 ; 29 ; 1Thes. 5 :22).

Dieu lui-même t’aidera à marcher avec lui.  (Philp. 2:13).
Ce qui est susdit n’est en aucun cas une loi mais des conseils utiles qui peuvent nous rassurer des bénédictions d’Abraham dans notre vie en tant qu’héritiers d’Abraham si ceux-ci sont alors pris en considération. Et si peut-être tu n’es pas encore né de nouveau, ton premier pas à prendre est de croire et d’accepter le Seigneur Jésus comme ton Seigneur et Sauveur et de te repentir de tes péchés pour devenir membre de la famille de Dieu et de la postérité d’Abraham. C’est ainsi que tu peux dès lors t’associer aux autres vrais croyants pour chanter: « les bénédictions d’Abraham sont les miennes, les bénédictions d’Abraham sont les miennes, je suis béni  le matin et je suis béni le soir, les bénédictions d’Abraham sont les miennes»

En dernier lieu, tu hériteras le royaume de Dieu avec Abraham et les autres croyants fidèles (Matt. 8:11). Sois béni au nom de Jésus. Amen.

1)    Seigneur, je reçois la grâce de marcher avec toi tous les jours de ma vie.
2)    Eternel, augmente ma foi en toi.
3)    Aide-moi, Seigneur, à te consulter toujours avant de prendre toute mesure au nom de Jésus.
