**TRUST IN GOD (ITS BLESSINGS AND BENEFITS)**

Sunday, 29^th May, 2016.

“It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes. All nations compass me about; but in the name of the Lord will I destroy them” (Ps. 118:8-10)

Trusting in God is a choice that carries along with it both spiritual and physical blessings. People that trust in God have enjoyed tremendous benefits and privileges it affords. The writer of this passage twice made the statement “It is better to trust in the Lord than …”

“First, he says “it is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man”. He had seen many people who put their confidence in man only to end up with disappointment because man’s ability is limited. He cannot do more than what is humanly possible. But he who trusts in the Lord does more than what is humanly possible. David was a young man, who because of his unwavering trust in God was able to confront Goliath and killed him.

Second, the writer says, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes”. The princes could be the nobles or the aristocrats in the society, people of matter and substance in the society, people of timber and caliber, people that are highly positioned in the society just to mention a few. All these with all their position and authority they are not the people the Christian can rely upon. Why? They exist today and tomorrow they are no longer relevant. They hold power for a time and later leave for another people to take over either by way of death or by the natural mode of operation. We are all eye-witnesses of what has been happening in our nation. The man who inspected a guard of honour yesterday has today become an ordinary man as others just over night. But it is not so with our God, He lives forever, nobody can impeach Him, He is not brought into power by any person or a group of persons, He Himself is the power. With trust in the Lord, the Psalmist believed that all the nations that compassed him about would be destroyed. If you really trust in God and do the right thing, He will surely fight your battle for you.

Let us sing stanza two (2) of the G.H.B 17.

Brightly doth His Spirit shine

Into this poor heart of mine

While He leads I cannot fall.

Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Chorus Trusting as the moments fly,

Trusting as the days go by

Trusting Him, whate’er befall

Trusting Jesus, that is all

Let us pray:

(1) Oh Lord, because I put my trust in You, I shall not be ashamed

(2) Oh Lord fight my battle for me

(3) I decree and declare that the present situation shall not overcome me in Jesus name.

« Mieux vaut chercher un refuge en l’Éternel Que de se confier à l’homme; mieux vaut chercher un refuge en l’Éternel Que de se confier aux grands. Toutes les nations m’environnaient: Au nom de l’Éternel, je les taille en pièces ». (Ps. 118 :8-10).

Avoir confiance en Dieu est un choix qui entraîne avec lui des bénédictions à la fois spirituelles et matérielles. Ceux qui se confient en Dieu jouissent d’énormes avantages et de privilèges que cela procure. L’auteur de ce passage reprend cette assertion : « Mieux vaut chercher un refuge en l’Eternel que…».

Primo, il affirme : «Mieux vaut chercher un refuge en l’Éternel que de se confier à l’homme ». Il vit beaucoup de gens qui s’étaient confiées à l’homme pour seulement finir avec déception car l’homme a une capacité limitée. Il ne peut aller au-delà de ce qui est humainement possible. Mais celui qui se confie en l’Eternel fait ce qui est au-delà de la possibilité humaine. David n’était qu’un jeune homme qui du fait de sa confiance inébranlable en Dieu fut capable d’affronter Goliath lequel il tua.

Secundo, l’auteur dit : «Mieux vaut chercher un refuge en l’Éternel que de se confier aux grands ». Ces grands pourraient être des nobles ou des aristocrates dans la société, des gens bien nantis dans la société, des personnages très influents, des gens hautement placés dans la société pour ne mentionner que quelques-uns. Ceux-là avec leurs positions et leurs autorités ne sont pas des gens en qui les chrétiens peuvent se confier. Pourquoi? Car ils existent aujourd’hui et perdent leur estime demain. Ils détiennent le pouvoir pour quelque temps et quittent ensuite pour d’autres afin que ceux-ci prennent la relève, soit en cas de décès ou selon le mode naturel d’opération. Nous sommes tous des témoins oculaires du déroulement des événements dans notre pays. Quelqu’un qui faisait le tour de la garde d’honneur hier devient aujourd’hui et soudainement un simple citoyen comme les autres. Mais tel n’est pas le cas avec Dieu car Il vit à jamais et personne ne le peut le détrôner. Il n’a été intronisé ni par quiconque ni par aucun groupe de personnes. Il représente lui-même le pouvoir. Avec confiance en l’Eternel, le Psalmiste crut que toutes les nations qui l’environnent seraient détruites. Si tu te confies réellement en Dieu et que tu fais ce qui est juste, il combattra pour toi.
