Spiritual Maturity Requires Time and Effort

2 Tim. 2:15-21

Some Christians hop from one Church to the other or read books looking for the magic formula for spiritual growth. Mushroom is the only plant that springs up in one day; but then its lifespan is just a few days. Spiritual growth that will last through one’s lifetime, demands time and effort to manifest. Paul exhorted Timothy to be diligent in seeking to grow spiritually. Also, Paul admonished Timothy to “take time and keep yourself spiritually fit” (1 Timothy 4:7, Phillips translation). Jesus spent quality time alone with God in prayer, sometimes all night. Those who look for “instant growth” because they are unwilling to invest time and effort always remain spiritual babes. How disciplined are you in investing your time and effort to grow spiritually?

Point of Emphasis:        There are no shortcuts to maturity. It is a slow process that takes discipline and focus.

Prayer Point:            Father, help me to remain focused and disciplined so that I may grow spiritually.

LA MATURITE SPIRITUELLE REQUIERT LE TEMPS ET L’EFFORT

2TIM. 2 :15-21

Certains sautent à cloche pied d’une église à une autre ou lisent des livres en quête d’une formule magique pour la croissance spirituelle. Le champignon est la seule plante qui pousse en un seul jour; mais enfin sa durée de vie n’est que de quelques jours. La croissance spirituelle qui durera pendant la durée de vie, exige le temps et l’effort avant de se manifester. Paul exhorta Timothée d’être habile dans sa quête de croissance spirituelle. De même, Paul exhorta Timothée de « …s’exercer à la piété » (1Tim. 4 :7). Il profita le plus possible des moments passés avec Dieu à prier, souvent toute la nuit. Ceux qui recherchent ‘une croissance instantanée’, compte tenu du fait qu’ils ne désirent pas investir du temps et de l’effort, demeurent toujours des nouveau-nés spirituels. Combien es-tu discipliné à investir ton temps et ton effort pour croître spirituellement ?

Point essentiel : Il n’existe pas de moyen rapide pour la maturité. C’est un processus lent qui demande la discipline et la concentration.
