FROM THE GENERAL OVERSEER,
Pastor (Dr) E. O. Abina
THE INDISPENSABLE AND POWERFUL WORD
Sunday 26th July, 2015.
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and shaper than a two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of joints and marrow, and is discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we give account” (Heb 4:12,13).
There are many things we may do without and yet succeed in life, but no Christian can succeed or survive without the knowledge and adoption of the word of God. It is not an option for our Christian life; it is a must. Our text says, the word of God is living – it is always alive, that is why it is able to give life to men who are dead in trespasses and sin. The word is living because God, the Author and Owner of the word is known as the Living God (Matt 16:16). The word of God is powerful – Yes, its power cannot be rated along with any force in the world. It is powerful to transform lives; it is powerful to change situations and circumstances. It is powerful to heal and do miracles. It is powerful to mold the destiny of a nation. It is powerful to raise the dead to life. The word of God is sharper than a two-edged sword, which is considered as a very sharp object, yet the word is rated as sharper than it. It is shaper than a two-edged sword because it cuts both the speaker and his audience. It penetrates into every part of the body, no matter how hidden. It searches every area of man’s life and as a mirror it shows you how spiritually dirty you are. It also causes joy unspeakable into our lives. Everything is naked before the eyes of its Author, that is why the word is able to search into the very depth of our heart and the intents of our thoughts.
The word is your compass and the gold mine of your uncommon blessings. And because the devil recognizes the value of the word of God he does all he can to prevent you from hearing, reading, learning, believing and applying the word. All you need in life is in the word of God. Do all you can to ensure that you pay good attention to the word. Let me just mention a few things the word does for our spiritual life.
- We prosper by the word (Joshua 1:8; Ps 1:2,3)
- We are converted by the word (Ps. 19:7)
- We are satisfied by the word of God (Ps. 119:103)
- We are illuminated by the word (Ps. 119:105)
- We are cleansed by the word (John 15:3)
- We are sanctified by the word (John 17:17)
- We are edified by the word (Acts 20:3)
- We are protected by the word (Eph. 6:17)
- We are born again by the word (I Pet. 2:3)
- We grow by the word (I Pet 2:2)
Therefore, take time to hear the word, learn the word, believe the word, behave the word, and you will surely be blessed. Amen.
