“Now as they heard these things, He spoke another parable, because He was near Jerusalem and because they thought the kingdom of God would appear immediately. Therefore He said: “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’ But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We will not have this man to reign over us.’ “And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. Then came the first, saying, ‘Master, your mina has earned ten minas.’ And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.’ And the second came, saying, ‘Master, your mina has earned five minas.’ Likewise he said to him, ‘You also be over five cities.’ “Then another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I have kept put away in a handkerchief. For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You collect what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.’ And he said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was an austere man, collecting what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow. Why then did you not put my money in the bank, that at my coming I might have collected it with interest?’ “And he said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina from him, and give it to him who has ten minas.’ (But they said to him, ‘Master, he has ten minas.’) ‘For I say to you, that to everyone who has will be given; and from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him” ( Luke 19:11-26).
The story in the passage above is the parable of a noble man who went to a far country and gave money for investments to his servants and told them to occupy till he comes which means do business till He comes, expecting each of them to trade with the money he has given them until he comes back. After the noble man went to a far country and returned, there came a time of accountability and each of them gave an account of how they have traded with the money given to them.
The first person traded with the money he was given and came back with ten Minas, his master praised him and also rewarded him because he was faithful. So also the second person who came back with five minas was also praised and rewarded. Because they had been faithful with what the master committed to their hands. While the last person hid the money, he did nothing with the money and came back with excuses. The master rebuked him because he was unfaithful, lazy and unprofitable and seized the one he had and gave it to the one who traded with what he was given.
This parable by extension is for all Christians, each Christian has one gift or more given by Christ Jesus through the Holy Spirit, to maximize it and make profit for the kingdom of God, I would like to remind everyone of us as we enter into the new year that everyone of us is gifted and we are responsible to God, God wants to see how much we would gain at the end of this year, so I encourage each of us to be a profitable servant who traded with what he was given and profited. The unprofitable servant did not only lose what he had but was also punished because he did not utilize what was given to him. The sad thing is that what he had was taken from him and given to the one who traded, he lost and was punished. It is therefore for each one of us to be wise, each one of us should identify the gift given to him or her maximize it, gain more and have more. So therefore don’t be unprofitable be profitable and God will bless you as you do this; this year.

« Ils écoutaient ces choses, et Jésus ajouta une parabole, parce qu’il était près de Jérusalem, et qu’on croyait qu’à l’instant le royaume de Dieu allait paraître. Il dit donc: Un homme de haute naissance s’en alla dans un pays lointain, pour se faire investir de l’autorité royale, et revenir ensuite. Il appela dix de ses serviteurs, leur donna dix mines, et leur dit: Faites-les valoir jusqu’à ce que je revienne. Mais ses concitoyens le haïssaient, et ils envoyèrent une ambassade après lui, pour dire: Nous ne voulons pas que cet homme règne sur nous. Lorsqu’il fut de retour, après avoir été investi de l’autorité royale, il fit appeler auprès de lui les serviteurs auxquels il avait donné l’argent, afin de connaître comment chacun l’avait fait valoir. Le premier vint, et dit: Seigneur, ta mine a rapporté dix mines. Il lui dit: C’est bien, bon serviteur; parce que tu as été fidèle en peu de chose, reçois le gouvernement de dix villes. Le second vint, et dit: Seigneur, ta mine a produit cinq mines. Il lui dit: Toi aussi, sois établi sur cinq villes. Un autre vint, et dit: Seigneur, voici ta mine, que j’ai gardée dans un linge; car j’avais peur de toi, parce que tu es un homme sévère; tu prends ce que tu n’as pas déposé, et tu moissonnes ce que tu n’as pas semé. Il lui dit: Je te juge sur tes paroles, méchant serviteur; tu savais que je suis un homme sévère, prenant ce que je n’ai pas déposé, et moissonnant ce que je n’ai pas semé; pourquoi donc n’as-tu pas mis mon argent dans une banque, afin qu’à mon retour je le retirasse avec un intérêt? Puis il dit à ceux qui étaient là: Otez-lui la mine, et donnez-la à celui qui a les dix mines. Ils lui dirent: Seigneur, il a dix mines. Je vous le dis, on donnera à celui qui a, mais à celui qui n’a pas on ôtera même ce qu’il a » (Luc 19:11-26).
L’histoire dans ce passage ci-dessus est la parabole d’un homme noble qui partait pour un pays lointain et qui donna de l’argent à ses serviteurs pour des investissements et de leur dire de le faire valoir jusqu’à ce qu’il revienne, ce qui veut dire d’en faire des affaires jusqu’à ce qu’il revienne, espérant chacun d’eux de faire du commerce avec l’argent qu’il leur a donné jusqu’à son retour. Après qu’il soit de retour de son voyage lointain, le moment de faire des comptes arriva et à chacun d’eux de rendre compte de ce qu’il fit de l’argent qui lui avait été donné.
La première personne fit du commerce avec l’argent qui lui avait été donné et revint avec dix mines ; il reçut les éloges de son maître qui le récompensa pour avoir été fidèle. Il en fut ainsi de la seconde personne qui revint avec cinq mines qui reçut lui aussi des éloges et fut récompensé, car ils furent tous deux honnêtes avec ce qui leur avait été confié par le maître. Quant à la troisième personne, il cacha l’argent qui lui avait donné et n’en fit rien avec mais revint plutôt avec des excuses. Le maître le réprimanda pour son infidélité, sa paresse et du fait qu’il soit non rentable et lui prit ce qu’il avait et le remit à celui qui avait fait du commerce avec ce qui lui avait été donné.
Cette parabole, par extension, s’adresse à tous les chrétiens. Chaque chrétien a plus ou moins un don qui lui a été donné par Jésus-Christ à travers le Saint-Esprit pour le maximaliser et en faire des profits pour le royaume de Dieu. Je voudrais rappeler à tout un chacun de nous que comme nous rentrons dans une nouvelle année, que chacun de nous est doué et responsable devant Dieu. Il s’intéresse à savoir combien nous réaliserons comme profit à la fin de cette année. J’aimerais donc encourager chacun de nous à être un serviteur fidèle qui fasse du commerce avec ce qui lui a été donné et à faire du profit. Le serviteur infidèle n’a pas seulement perdu ce qu’il avait mais fut aussi puni pour n’avoir pas utilisé ce qui lui avait été donné. Ce qui est triste est qu’on lui arracha ce qu’il avait et cela fut donné à celui qui avait fait du commerce. Il perdit donc et fut puni. Il est donc important pour chacun de nous d’être sage. Nous devons chacun identifier le don qui nous a été donné et le maximaliser afin de faire du profit et en avoir davantage. Ne sois donc pas infidèle mais plutôt fidèle et Dieu te bénira comme tu agis ainsi cette année.
