WHY YOU NEED FAITH

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Heb 11:6).

The need for a Christian to have unflinching faith in God cannot be overemphasized.  Verse 2 of Hebrews 11 says: “For by it (faith) the elders obtained a good testimony”.  Someone has said that, The Bible is a well of promises but faith is the bucket to draw from it.  God is invisible, so it therefore takes faith to believe what or who you do not see.  Faith is not ‘seeing is believing’.  There is no faith in what you see before you believe.  Faith is believing what you do not see, so that you can see what you believe.  (This is my own definition of faith).

Let us see how different translations of the Bible define the word ‘faith’ in Hebrews 11:1
(a)   “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (NKJV)
(b)   “Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us the assurance about things we cannot see” (New Living Translation).
(c)    “Now Faith is the assurance (confirmation, the title deed) of things (we) hope for, being the prrof of things (we) do not see and the conviction of their reality (faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses)” Amp Bible.
(d)   To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see” (Good News Bible).
I can still quote more but the above is enough to help us.  The Bible says, we walk by faith and not by sight.  There is no one that would please God without faith in Him.  It is just impossible.  People of faith do exploits through their faith in the God of the universe.  Faith does not work with our common sense.  When God says certain things or gives an instruction, if by faith it is carried out, you cannot regret you did.  Human reasoning does not work with faith.  For example, when the Children of Israel were at the bank of the Red Sea, God told Moses to stretch the rod in his hand and divide the Sea. Human reasoning would say no, that’s not possible, but he did it, and the Sea was divided.  Why?  Because he believed in the ability of the God who gave the instruction though human history had never recorded such an event before that time.

When Joshua was leading the Children of Israel to the Promised Land and the people at Jericho would not allow Israel to pass through their city, the instruction which God gave Joshua could not work with our human common sense, what would walking round the wall accomplish to put down the big wall surrounding the city?  But faith did it, when they followed the instruction the wall fell flat. I can still go on and on.  You need faith to be healed by God.  Jesus only told the ten lepers that called on Him for healing, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priest’.  They believed what Jesus said and, as they were going, their leprosy disappeared, that is faith.

Faith is believing what the word of God says.  The centurion who came to Jesus to heal his servant who was at the point of death said to Him: “Only speak a word and my servant will be healed” (Matt 8:8) and that was how his servant was healed without Jesus going to his house.  You need such faith to help you in your Christian life and moreso that you are preparing to attend our International Annual Convention. You can only be blessed as you exercise your faith to see the glory of God and be blessed.  God moves in mysterious ways. You cannot dictate how He would work, only believe.  Peter and his partners had worked hard the previous night but caught no fish, but at the dawn when Jesus used his fishing boat to preach to the audience, after the message He only told Peter: “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch”.  Though Peter had toiled the previous night without catching any fish but because Jesus said it, Peter believed and said: “nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net; and when he did, they caught a great number of fish and, their net was breaking (Lk 5:1-8).  So as you go to attend this annual convention, I advise you to: “believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets (His servants) and you shall prosper” (II Chron 20:20b).  I wish you a happy and blessed convention. May you be richly blessed as you release you faith in God, His word and His servants.  Amen.

POURQUOI AS-TU BESOIN DE LA FOI ?

« Or sans la foi il est impossible de lui être agréable; car il faut que celui qui s’approche de Dieu croie que Dieu existe, et qu’il est le rémunérateur de ceux qui le cherchent » (Héb. 11:6) (LSV).

On ne soulignera jamais assez l’importance du besoin pour un chrétien d’avoir une foi stoïque. Le verset 2 du livre d’Hébreux chapitre 11, dit : « Pour l’avoir possédée, les anciens ont obtenu un témoignage favorable» Quelqu’un affirma que la Bible est un puits de bonnes promesses mais la foi un seau qui sert à en puiser. Dieu est invisible, cela exige la foi de croire à ce que ou en qui nous ne voyons pas. La foi ne signifie pas ‘voir c’est croire’. Il n’existe aucune foi dans ce que nous voyons avant de croire. La foi, c’est croire à ce que nous ne voyons pas afin que nous puissions voir ce que nous croyons. C’est là notre définition à nous de la foi.

Voyons comment les différentes versions  de la Bible définissent le mot ‘foi’ dans Hébreux 11:1 :
(a)       « Or la foi est une ferme assurance des choses qu’on espère, une démonstration de celles qu’on ne voit pas » (Version Louis Segond).
(b)       « La foi est la confiance que ce que nous espérons aura certainement lieu ; elle nous donne l’assurance au sujet des choses qu’on ne voit pas » (La Nouvelle Traduction Vivante).
(c)        « Or la foi est une ferme assurance (confirmation, constitutif de propriété) des choses qu’on espère, étant la preuve des choses qu’on ne voit pas et la conviction de leur réalité (la foi perçue comme un fait réel qui n’est pas révélé aux sens) » (La Bible Amplifiée).
(d)       « Avoir la foi, c’est d’être sûr des choses qu’on espère, d’être certain des choses qu’on ne peut pas voir »  (La Bible de la Bonne Nouvelle).

Nous pouvons en citer davantage mais ce qui est susdit suffit à nous aider. La Bible dit que nous marchons par la foi et non pas par ce que nous voyons. Nul ne pourrait plaire à Dieu s’il n’a pas la foi en lui. C’est tout à fait impossible. Les hommes de foi font des exploits par leur foi en le Dieu de l’univers. La foi ne travaille pas avec notre bon sens. Souvent, quand Dieu dit certaines choses ou donne une instruction, si elles sont exécutées par la foi, tu ne peux pas regretter de les avoir faites. Le raisonnement humain ne travaille pas avec la foi. Par exemple, quand les enfants d’Israël étaient sur le banc de la Mer Rouge, Dieu dit à Moïse d’étendre la verge dans sa main et de fendre la mer. Le raisonnement humain s’y opposera, que cela n’est pas possible mais il fit cela et la mer fut fendue. Pourquoi ? Car il crut à la compétence du Dieu qui donna l’instruction quoique l’histoire humaine n’ait jamais rapporté un événement pareil avant ce temps.

Quand Josué menait les enfants d’Israël à la Terre Promise et que le peuple de Jéricho leur refusait le passage par leur ville, l’instruction que Dieu donna à Josué ne pouvait pas travailler avec notre bon sens; qu’est-ce que marcher autour du mur accomplirait à faire écrouler le grand mur qui entourait la ville ? Mais la foi l’accomplit quand ils suivirent l’instruction et le mur tomba à plat. Nous pouvons citer plusieurs autres cas. Tu as besoin de la foi pour être guéri(e) par Dieu. Jésus eut dire simplement aux dix lépreux qui l’invoquèrent pour la guérison : « allez vous présenter au sacrificateur» Ils crurent à ce que Jésus dit et comme ils partaient, leur lèpre disparut ; c’est cela la foi.

La foi, c’est croire à ce que dit la parole de Dieu. Le centenier qui vint à Jésus pour qu’il guérisse son serviteur qui était sur le point de mourir, lui dit : « Dis seulement un mot et mon serviteur sera guéri» (Matt. 8:8) et voilà comment son serviteur était guéri sans que Jésus aille chez lui. Tu as besoin d’une telle foi pour t’aider dans ta vie chrétienne et d’autant que tu te prépares à prendre part à la Convention Annuelle Internationale. Tu ne peux être seulement béni(e) aussi bien que tu exerces ta foi pour contempler la gloire de Dieu et d’être béni(e). Dieu se manifeste de façon mystérieuse. Tu ne peux pas dicter comment il travaillerait, crois seulement. Pierre et ses partenaires avaient travaillé toute la nuit précédente sans rien prendre mais à l’aube quand Jésus fit usage de son navire de pêche (barque) pour prêcher à l’audience ; après le message, il dit simplement à Pierre : « … Avance en pleine eau, et jetez vos filets pour pêcher » (Lu. 5:4). Quoique Pierre ait travaillé toute la nuit sans rien prendre mais compte tenu du fait que Jésus avait parlé, Pierre crut et dit : « …mais, sur ta parole, je jetterai le filet. L’ayant jeté, ils prirent une grande quantité de poissons, et leur filet se rompait » (Luc 5:5-6). Donc, de même que vous partez assister à la Convention Annuelle, je vous conseille de : « Confiez-vous en l’Éternel, votre Dieu, et vous serez affermis; confiez-vous en ses prophètes, et vous réussirez » (2Ch. 20:20^b). Nous vous souhaitons une heureuse convention bénie. Que vous soyez richement bénis comme vous relâchez votre foi sur Dieu, sa parole et ses serviteurs. Amen.
