BUILT TO LAST

Sunday 25^th January 2014.

“He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great” (Luke 6:48-49).

A particular building was being built somewhere near where we were also building at almost the same time. At a point they got to the deck stage and they did the decks, they continued with building but suddenly the deck began to sag and collapsed. They resorted to patching up the deck to make the house habitable.

It is certain that although the builders were professionals and may have known building principles, they have chosen to ignore them and because they have chosen to ignore them they could not benefit from them. This leads to waste, delay and destruction. Many hear the word of God today through divers medium, as technology has provided a platform to make the dissemination of the gospel easier and faster. Yet the visible evidence in the lives of many receivers of the word is that large chunks are hearers and not doers. Imagine for a moment what kind of a nation Nigeria will be if every Christian in Nigeria is a doer of the word of God.

Here today, gone tomorrow, is a phrase that describes the fate of some believers, who, fail to do the word, they lack the strength and stamina to stand and waver and crumble at the slightest change in the climate of their lives because they have not built their lives with the enduring materials of the word. The word of God provides the foundation and the super structure that braces our lives and causes us to stand and overcome every storm and challenge of life because they are time tested principles and the author of the bible is the maker of man. No one knows a product better than its maker.

We can therefore compare the human life to a building. The first step to building a house is planning. To benefit from the word of God, first plan, make up your Mind that you are going to do what the word of God tells you to do. The next step in building is site preparation. Second, remove every distraction from your mind so that the word will land on a fertile soil in your heart.

Third, remove everything that will hinder you from doing the word. Fourth, do the word and hold yourself accountable, there are some who never write down what they have heard, some write and never do them, you might wish to write as you read or hear the word thus that as a result of the word I heard or read today, I will do the following…. Revisit your notes from time to time to see how you are doing, that is how to live a fruitful spiritual life that will stand the test of time. Don’t just be a believer be a doer, Are you building to last?

«Il est semblable à un homme qui, bâtissant une maison, a creusé, creusé profondément, et a posé le fondement sur le roc. Une inondation est venue, et le torrent s’est jeté contre cette maison, sans pouvoir l’ébranler, parce qu’elle était bien bâtie. Mais celui qui entend, et ne met pas en pratique, est semblable à un homme qui a bâti une maison sur la terre, sans fondement. Le torrent s’est jeté contre elle: aussitôt elle est tombée, et la ruine de cette maison a été grande » (Lu 6:48-49).

Un bâtiment quelconque était en voie de construction quelque part non loin de là où nous étions aussi en train de bâtir une maison en même temps. A un moment donné, ils (les travailleurs) arrivèrent au niveau de la dalle  et  l’achevèrent. Ils continuèrent avec la construction quand soudain la dalle se mit à s’effondrer et finit par s’écrouler . Les travailleurs recoururent à réparer la dalle pour que la maison soit habitable.

Il est certain que quoique les bâtisseurs soient des professionnels et aient une connaissance des principes du bâtiment, ils ont choisi de les ignorer et étant donné qu’ils aient choisi de les ignorer, ils ne pouvaient pas en tirer profit. Ceci conduit à une perte, au retard et à la destruction. Beaucoup écoutent de nos jours la parole de Dieu par le biais de divers media, comme la technologie nous offre une plateforme pour rendre la dissémination de l’évangile plus facile et plus rapide. Encore est-il que l’évidence palpable dans la vie de beaucoup de récepteurs de la parole est qu’une grande partie de ce groupe ne sont que des auditeurs et non pas des pratiquants.  Imagine pour un instant le type de nation que le Nigeria serait si chaque chrétien au Nigeria mettrait en pratique la parole de Dieu.

A la page aujourd’hui, aux oubliettes demain est une expression qui décrit le sort de quelques croyants qui manquent de mettre en pratique la parole, ils manquent la force et l’endurance de se tenir debout , chancellent et chutent à la moindre variation de climat dans leur vie car ils n’ont pas bâti leur vie avec les matériaux durables de la parole. La parole de Dieu offre le fondement et la superstructure qui étrésillonnent notre vie et nous font tenir debout et vaincre tout orage et défi de la vie car ce sont des principes éprouvés par le temps et l’auteur de la Bible est le créateur de l’homme. Nul ne connaît un produit mieux que son fabricant.

Nous pouvons donc comparer la vie humaine à un bâtiment. Le premier pas à prendre quand on veut bâtir est la planification. Pour tirer partie de la parole de Dieu, dresse d’abord un plan et décide en toi-même que tu feras ce que la parole de Dieu te dit de faire. Le second pas en bâtissant est la préparation du site (terrain). Eloigne de ton esprit toute distraction afin que la parole puisse tomber dans ton cœur sur une terre fertile.

Troisièmement, dégage-toi de tout ce qui t’empêcherait de mettre la parole en pratique. Quatrièmement, mets la parole en pratique et tiens-toi responsable; il y a certains qui ne prennent jamais ce qu’ils écoutent en note, d’autres écrivent sans pourtant jamais les mettre en pratique. Tu voudrais prendre en note pendant que tu lis ou écoutes la parole; donc, à la suite de ce que j’écoute ou lis, je ferai ce qui suit… Revois tes notes de temps en temps pour évaluer ta performance. Voici comment mener une vie spirituelle fructueuse qui résistera aux épreuves du temps. Ne sois pas un simple croyant, sois un pratiquant. Bâtis-tu de façon durable?
