Be Quick to Hear, Slow To Wrath

Jam. 1:12-20

In the Church one day, I heard what I took to be a criticism and replied angrily. When the person speaking eventually had the opportunity to explain himself, it turned out to be a suggestion for progress and improvement. Of course, I could only apologize for my earlier angry retort, but could not retrieve what I have said. It is great wisdom to be quick to hear what people have to say, to take time to ponder on what they have said before responding. It is natural to respond promptly without deep thought, but that always bring shame and regret when one finally finds that one has made a mistake in judgment. Think deeply about what others have said. Think deeply about what impact your response will make, and ask yourself if the likely impact is what you intend. Your words are like raw eggs, once broken cannot be put back together.

Point of Emphasis:      Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.

Prayer Point:   I receive the grace to be a good listener in Jesus’ name.

SOIS PROMPT A ECOUTER, LENT A TE METTRE EN COLERE

JACQUES 1 :12-20

Un jour à l’église, j’ai entendu ce que j’avais pris pour une critique et j’ai violemment réagi. Quand celui qui avait parlé finit par avoir l’occasion de s’expliquer lui-même, la critique tourna en une suggestion visant au progrès et à l’amélioration. Bien sûr, je ne pouvais que présenter mes excuses pour ma première riposte pleine de colère, mais je ne pouvais pas retirer ce que j’avais dit. C’est une grande sagesse d’être prompt à écouter ce que les gens ont à dire, de prendre du temps à y réfléchir avant de répondre. C’est naturel de répondre promptement sans penser profondément, mais cela entraîne toujours la honte et le regret quand l’on finit par découvrir avoir fait une erreur de jugement. Pense profondément à ce que disent les gens. Pense profondément au sujet de l’impact que fera ta réponse et pose-toi la question de savoir si l’impact probable est celle que tu désires. Tes paroles sont comme des œufs frais qui une fois cassés ne peuvent plus être mis ensemble.

Point essentiel : Que tout homme soit prompt à écouter, lent à parler et lent à la colère.
