Spiritual Pride

Jn. 8:31-41

A group of believers can hold on to some religious heritage or practice, of which they are very proud but which are of no spiritual value. For the Jews in Jesus’ days, their pride was based on their being descendants of Abraham, the friend of God. Though they were dead in their sins, they had no place for the living water which Jesus brought. They were in no condition to allow the Holy Spirit to do the work of revival in their midst. These days spiritual pride can arise from denominational feeling of superiority, material affluence, educational attainment, past move of God in the midst of the congregation. Spiritual pride breeds complacency and kills the appetite for the move of God in a congregation. Revival cannot manifest in such a congregation.

Point of Emphasis:     Spiritual pride drives the Holy Spirit away from the midst of a congregation.

Prayer Point:              We repent today of everything that has been the source of spiritual pride in our Church, O God.
