Training Children In The Fear Of God

Gen. 18:16-19

God desires that children born unto a family be raised to fear and obey Him – “He seeks godly offspring” (Mal. 2:15). Abraham did not disappoint God in this regard. God testified of him that “he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice”. Couples desire to have children, but often neglect this awesome duty of training the children to fear and obey God. Parents allow their children to live wayward lives under the pretext that civilization has rendered some of the Biblical commands obsolete. Children often rebel against their parents, labeling the parents as “old school”. God does not change His standards. His commands are always unchanged – He is the “oldest school”. Parents will be held accountable if they fail to instruct their children in the way of God. Our society reveals the dire consequences of allowing children to go their own way far from God.

Point of Emphasis: God’s promise to Abraham was predicated on his teaching his children the way of God.

Prayer Point: Help every parent to realize how important it is to train the children in the way of the Lord.
